This Privacy Policy explains how Splittify (“we”, “us”, the “App”) collects, uses, and protects your information. Splittify is operated by Mirza Sufian, an individual developer based in New South Wales, Australia. By using the App you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information we collect

We collect only what the App needs to function:

• Account information — your name, and an email address and/or phone number, used to create and secure your account. Passwords are stored only as a one-way encrypted (hashed) value; we never store your password in readable form.
• Sign-in provider data — if you choose to sign in with Google or Apple, we receive a unique identifier and (where you allow it) your name and email from that provider, used solely to create or access your account.
• Contact matching data — if you grant contacts permission to find friends, we generate one-way cryptographic hashes (SHA-256) of contact emails and phone numbers on your device and send only those hashes to check whether a contact already uses Splittify. We do not upload, store, or read your raw contact list.
• Group and expense data — the groups you create, expenses, splits, settlements, and resulting balances you and your group members enter.
• Limited technical data — basic information needed to operate and secure the service (for example, authentication tokens and error/diagnostic information).

2. How we use your information

• To create and authenticate your account and keep it secure.
• To provide the core features: creating groups, splitting expenses, calculating balances, and recording settlements.
• To send transactional messages such as email verification and one-time passcodes (OTP).
• To match contacts you choose to share so you can add friends who already use the App.
• To maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the service.

We do not sell your personal information.

3. Third-party service providers

We use trusted third parties to operate the App. They process data only to provide their service to us:

Each provider maintains its own privacy and security practices. Some may process or store data outside Australia.

4. Data storage, security, and retention

Your data is stored in a secured database. We apply reasonable technical measures including encrypted password hashing, hashed contact matching, access controls, and encrypted connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We retain your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal information, subject to any limited records we must keep for legal or security reasons. Note that expense and balance records shared within a group may remain visible to other members of that group.

5. Your rights and choices

• Access and correction — you can view and update your account details in the App.
• Account deletion — you can delete your account from within the App, which removes your personal information as described above.
• Contacts permission — you can decline or revoke contacts access at any time in your device settings; the App remains usable without it.
• Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the Australian Privacy Act (APPs), the EU/UK GDPR, or the California CCPA — including rights to access, correct, or erase your data. Contact us to exercise these rights.

6. Children

Splittify is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

7. International users

We are based in Australia. If you use the App from outside Australia, your information may be transferred to and processed in Australia and in the countries where our service providers operate.

8. Monetisation

Splittify is currently free and does not display third-party advertising or offer paid features. If we introduce advertising or paid subscriptions in the future, we will update this Policy and, where required, ask for your consent before any new collection or use of your data.

9. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide notice within the App where appropriate.

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the Splittify application. By creating an account or using the App, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Who we are

Splittify is provided by Mirza Sufian, an individual developer based in New South Wales, Australia.

2. Eligibility and your account

• You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your country) and able to form a binding agreement.
• You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide and for keeping your login credentials secure.
• You are responsible for activity that occurs under your account.

3. What Splittify does

Splittify helps you and your group members record shared expenses, split costs, and track who owes whom. Splittify is a record-keeping and calculation tool only. It does not process, hold, transfer, or settle real money. Any actual payments between you and others happen outside the App, and you are solely responsible for them.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the App for any unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful purpose.
• Upload content you do not have the right to share, or that infringes others’ rights.
• Attempt to access, disrupt, reverse-engineer, or interfere with the App, its security, or other users’ data.
• Add another person’s contact details without a reasonable basis to do so.

5. User content and shared data

You retain ownership of the content you enter (such as group names, expenses, and notes). By entering shared information into a group, you understand it will be visible to other members of that group. You grant us a limited licence to store and process your content solely to operate the App.

6. Accuracy of balances

Balances, splits, and settlement suggestions are generated automatically from the data you and your group enter. We do not guarantee they are free of errors. You are responsible for verifying amounts before relying on them or making any payment.

7. Service availability

We aim to keep the App available and reliable but provide it on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time, and the App may experience downtime or data interruptions.

8. Third-party services

The App relies on third-party providers (see the Privacy Policy). We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or practices of those third parties.

9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the App is provided without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss, or for any loss arising from inaccurate balances, missed or incorrect payments, data loss, or service interruptions. Nothing in these Terms excludes rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law or other laws that cannot be lawfully excluded.

10. Termination

You may stop using the App and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms or use the App in a way that may cause harm or legal risk.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and you agree to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of its courts, without affecting any mandatory consumer protections available to you where you live.

Splittify is a simple, privacy-conscious app for splitting shared expenses with friends, flatmates, and groups. Create a group, add expenses, and Splittify works out who owes whom — with clear balances and optimised settlement suggestions so everyone can square up with the fewest payments.

What you can do

• Create groups and add members by email, phone, or from your contacts.
• Add expenses and split them equally, by exact amounts, or by percentage.
• See clear per-person balances and simplified settlement suggestions.
• Record settlements and keep a tidy history of settled periods.

Privacy by design

Splittify is built to collect as little as possible. Contacts are matched using one-way hashes rather than uploading your address book, passwords are stored only as secure hashes, and you can delete your account and data at any time.
